Bodybodybodybody
The word ‘knaldrang’ was chosen as the Belgian Word of the Year in 2021. According to the Dutch/Flemish Van Dale dictionary it means something like the ‘intense need to party’. A quite recognisable impulse for many after all recent lockdowns. However, the dictionary could just as easily have given Bodybodybodybody as its definition. This inciting composition of the Flemish musicians Dag Taeldeman and Andrew Van Ostade is inspired by the Tantarella: a traditional South-Italian dance popularly thought to ward off evil spirits and diseases.
The Tarantella was also often used as a way to let loose following a period of austerity. Dancer Matteo Sedda added an exuberant and repetitive choreography to the music, inspired by both the magic of its tradition as well as by the contemporary dance scene. Additionally supported by an aria by the soprano Lies Vandewege, not moving to this exhilarating musical journey is simply impossible. Meandering between electro, dance, guitar and traditional music Bodybodybodybody slowly but surely draws you deeper and deeper into an ecstatic and explosive dance ritual.
